SUMMARY:Intro to Venous Imaging and Ultrasound Evaluation for Vein The
 rapy
DESCRIPTION:Intro to Venous Imaging and Ultrasound Evaluation for Vein
  Therapy -- June 2011\n\nStart Date: 6/9/2011\nEnd Date: 6/10/2011\n16
 .0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM\nAdvanced Registration: $1,425.00\nR
egular Registration: $1,465.00\nLocation: Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institu
te\nAddress: 4615 Gulf Blvd., Suite 205\nSt. Pete Beach, FL 33706\n\n*
The Advanced Registration fee is honored if payment is made/postmarked
21 days or more prior to the beginning date of the program\n\nA $100.
00 late fee will apply if registering less than or equal to 7 Days bef
ore the course. Call to register if less than or equal to 7 days from
course date.\n\nObjectives & Topics\nAt the completion of this program
, the participant should be able to:\n\n1. Identify the anatomy/physio
logy of the upper & lower extremity venous systems.\n2. Discuss Dopple
r/color physics and be able to (sonographers) apply these principles t
o optimize system controls or (physicians) utilize this information fo
r recognizing technical errors which may result in misdiagnosis.\n3. P
erform routine scan protocols, and document Doppler waveforms for veno
us evaluation of the lower extremity including pre and post vein ablat
 ion evaluation.\n4. Identify normal/abnormal spectral Doppler/color ch
aracteristics and waveform characteristics for identifying venous dise
ase.\n5. Recognize image characteristics of acute versus chronic DVT.\
n6. Discuss the use of Ultrasound-Guidance and its role in the treatme
nt of venous insufficiency.\n7. Perform evaluation for venous insuffic
iency to determine suitability for vein therapy treatment and to deter
mine patency of perforators.\n8. State the diagnostic criteria for ide
ntifying significant venous insufficiency.\n9. Increase the participan
ts’ knowledge to better perform and/or interpret lower extremity ven
ous evaluation for vein closure procedures.\n10. Apply the information
discussed in a clinical setting, under supervised conditions until an
accepted level of proficiency has been achieved.\n\nCourse Topics:\n\
n• Doppler fundamentals\n• Venous anatomy/scan techniques and norm
al characteristics\n• Evaluation of venous pathology\n• Live demo:
evaluation for DVT and venous insufficiency\n• Upper extremity veno
us evaluation\n• Saphenous vein mapping\n• U/S evaluation for pre
and post vein ablation therapy\n• Venous insufficiency and perforato
 r evaluation\n• Hands-on sessions\n\nFaculty\nDoreen Saltiel MD, FAC
 C, PRVI\nPresident\nTotal Vein Care\nFort Smith, AR\nConsultant, accep
ting honorariums from Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute\nNo relevant fina
ncial relationships to disclose.\n\nTarget Audience\nSonographers, phy
sicians, PAs and other medical professionals who are at an entry level
of performing venous exams for eval. of DVT & pre & post U/S eval. fo
r vein ablation procedures. Physician may include (but are not limited
to) internists, cardiologists, radiologists and general/vascular surg
 eons.\n\nCME Credit Statements\n\nThe Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute i
s accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Educa
tion to provide continuing medical education for physicians.\n\nThe Gu
lfcoast Ultrasound Institute designates this educational activity for
a maximum of 16.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credit(s)™. Physicians shou
ld only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participati
on in the activity.\n\nThis course also meets CME/CEU requirements for
ARDMS. Note: While offering the CME credit hours noted above, activit
ies are not intended to provide extensive training or certification fo
r exam performance or interpretation.\n\nFor more information visit ht
