y important role in gynecology. Applications of Gynecological ultrasou
nd include general screening of women who are currently or have previo
usly experienced menopause, and special diagnostic and therapeutic pro
cedures, such as ovarian cyst aspirations and sonohysterograms (evalua
tion of the internal surface of the uterus). Gynecologic ultrasound pr
ovides visualization of the uterus and ovaries that may add important
additional information not demonstrated using other imaging methods or
with physical exam findings.\n\nYou will leave this course with a tho
rough understanding of this modality. Model demonstrations and hands-o
n scanning will present opportunities to have specific questions answe
red. The addition of Doppler to the study will allow inclusion of seve
ral pathological conditions not otherwise visualized.\n\nObjectives\nA
t the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:\n• Suc
cessfully complete endovaginal ultrasound examinations following corre
ct patient preparation and procedure protocols.\n• Identify and disp
lay appropriate normal anatomy and orientation in the ultrasound field
of view.\n• Use an endovaginal transducer to perform the procedure.
\n• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the importance of quality ass
urance in ultrasound as described in AIUM guidelines.\n• Understand
variations in scanning protocols for demonstration in gynecological ex
aminations.\n• Demonstrate techniques for transducer cleaning and in
fection control.\n• Be able to identify sources and research referen
ce materials for additional information on gynecological ultrasound.\n
 • Use Doppler ultrasound as an adjunct imaging method in a gynecolog
 ical exam.\n\nCourse Topics\n• Physics and Instrumentation\n• Pers
pective and Orientation\n• Protocols and Patient Preparation\n• An
atomy and Normal Variants\n• Ovarian, uterine, and tubal pathology e
 valuation\n• Sonohysterography\n• Doppler Studies - Spectral and c
olor Doppler screening of pelvic or ovarian masses\n• Case Studies a
 nd Analysis\n• Hands-on Scan Lab\n\nTarget Audience\nPhysicians, Son
ographers, and other medical professionals experienced in transabdomin
al scanning of the female pelvis. Physicians can include but are not l
imited to the specialties of OB/GYN, Family Practice, Emergency Medici
ne or Radiology.\n\nCME Credit\n\"The Advanced Health Education Center

program.\" \"The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers allows 12
