SUMMARY:Fetal Echocardiography
DESCRIPTION:Fetal Echocardiography\nDecember 8-9, 2011\n\nProgram Coor
dinators: Annina Wilkes, MD - Paul C. Anisman, MD - Dennis Wood, RDMS,
  RCPT\n\nProgram Description:\nThis two-day program provides a compreh
ensive introduction to the science and practice of fetal echocardiogra
phy.\n\nThe course will provide an understanding of the unique require
ments of fetal echo in the diagnosis of structural malformations of th
e heart and will also include the use of pulsed, continuous wave, and
color Doppler as well as M-mode in fetal cardiovascular diagnosis. Fin
dings from the ultrasonographic/Doppler assessment of fetal cardiovasc
ular physiology will be related to the pre- and postnatal management o
f congenital heart disease. Throughout the program the clinical import
ance of observations made during the fetal echo exam will be detailed.
\n\nTypical presentation topics for this course include:\n• Normal 4
Chamber Hearts with Devastating Congenital Heart Disease\n• The Nor
mal Fetal Heart As Part of the Fetal Ultrasound Study: What It Should
Include\n• The 2-Minute Heart Study: How To Sweep Slowly for Positio
n, Size, Function and Rhythm\n• Terminology for Congenital Heart Dis
ease/Fetal Cardiology\n• Indications for a Targeted Fetal Echocardio
graphy\n• The Comprehensive Fetal Echocardiogram\n• Normal and Abn
ormal Atrial and Atrio-Ventricular Connections\n• Normal and Abnorma
l Ventriculo-Arterial Alignments\n• The Use of Doppler in High Risk\
n• Normal Structures but Sick Heart\n• Evaluation and Treatment of
Fetal Arrhythmias\n• Evaluation and Treatment of Fetal Congestive H
eart\n• Difficult Fetal Heart Diagnostic Differentials\n• Surgical
Treatments and Outcomes for Complex Congenital Heart Disease\n• Fet
al Pathologic Correlates: Hands on Fetal Cardiac Specimens\n\nEducatio
nal Objectives:\nThrough attending this program the participant should
be able to:\nlist the elements of screening and complete fetal heart
exams\nidentify the common forms of congenital heart disease\nrecogniz
e an abnormal four chamber view of the heart\nrelate abnormal cardiac
Doppler findings to the clinical outcome\n\nCME Credits and Tuition:\n
This program is approved for 13.5 hours of AMA Category I credit.\n\nT
