SUMMARY:Emergency Medicine Ultrasound/ Point of Care Ultrasound
DESCRIPTION:The “Golden Hour” is one of the pillars of emergency m
edicine. Capitalize on the speed and accuracy of ultrasound to take ad
vantage of every minute. Having the skills to evaluate the abdomen (th
e FAST procedure), first trimester pregnancy and cardiac ultrasound ma
y make the difference between life and death!  Participants in this c
ourse will benefit from “hands on scan labs” where you will practi
ce the essential skills and techniques to acquire an ultrasound image
for quick and accurate diagnosis.\nAHEC has taught this course for phy
sicians in the US, China, and South America. This two day course begin
s both days with lecture where faculty will review the basics such as:
ultrasound physics and instrumentation, anatomy, and procedures and p
rotocols. Following lecture, participants will benefit from our on-sit
e scanning lab with live models for extensive hands-on practice. The c
ourse content is based on ACEP guidelines for the performance on Emerg
ency Medicine Ultrasound.\nScan with the experts\nSometimes it takes a
n additional day or two of scanning to generate confidence in your new
skill set.  If you would like to add a day or two, all our ultrasoun
d skills courses can be scheduled with additional scan days in our sta
te of the art interactive scan lab.  Give us a call and discuss your
needs with our faculty so we can help you achieve your goals.\nObjecti
ves\nAt the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:\n\
nIdentify the appropriate equipment settings and transducer selection
for different ultrasound applications\nIdentify and display appropriat
e normal and abnormal anatomy and orientation in the ultrasound field
of view\nUnderstand variations in scanning protocols for demonstration
of pathologies in emergency medicine examinations.\nSuccessfully perf
orm a focused abdomen exam\nSuccessfully perform a trauma FAST exam\nS
uccessfully perform the protocol for a bedside evaluation of pericardi
al effusion\nDiscuss and apply scanning techniques for the performance
of the female patient and first trimester OB with transabdominal and
 endovaginal approaches\n\nCourse Topics\n\nIntroduction to ultrasound
physics and instrumentation\nAnatomy of the abdominal and retroperiton
eal structures\nAbdominal scan protocols, image orientation, and patho
logy\nAbdominal trauma, the FAST exam procedure\nCardiac 2D imaging in
the ED\nEvaluation of pericardial effusion\nOB/GYN ultrasound anatomy
and procedures\nFirst trimester pregnancy with endovaginal imaging\nE
arly gestation and ectopic pregnancy\nUltrasound appearance of patholo
 gy in case studies\nFocused hands-on scan labs\n\nTarget Audience\nEme
rgency medicine physicians, trauma surgeons, critical care physicians,
intensivists, internal medicine and family practice physicians who wi
ll be performing and interpreting ultrasound examinations.\n\n\nFor mo
