7\n\nMEETING DESCRIPTION:\nYou will learn basic echocardiography inclu
ding investigation of the heart with 2-D, M-Mode, and Cardiac Doppler.
This course is eight days and begins with the anatomy and physiology
of the cardiac cycle. The physics and instrumentation of the exam incl
uding measurement techniques will form the basics for a quality study.
You will learn the fundamental pathophysiology, the primary and secon
dary echocardiographic findings and the technical aspects of the proce
dure. It is an intensive study that will demand the maximum effort. Go
od hand-to-eye coordination is a plus factor. Half of the course is in
structor directed hands-on scanning with models.\n\nObjectives\nAt the
completion of this course, the learner will be able to:\n• Explain
normal cardiovascular anatomy and physiology and relate cardiovascular
functions to disease.\n• Discuss cardiac mechanical and electrical
physiology and relate this information from the echocardiogram to the
basic electrocardiogram.\n• Operate several ultrasound units for the
  production of 2-D, M-Mode and Doppler echocardiograms.\n• Perform a
n echocardiogram using the protocol defined by the American Society of
Echocardiography, i.e. parasternal long and short, apical 2, 4, 5, an
d long, and subcostal long and short axis.\n• Quantitatively analyze
the results of 2-D and M-Mode echocardiogram.\n• Analyze the result
s of an echocardiogram for normal versus abnormal findings.\n• Analy
ze echocardiograms for common cardiac pathologies.\n• Identify and r
esolve basic technique and equipment problems that interfere with the
quality of studies.\n• Define the clinical responsibilities of an ec
hocardiographer who is confronted with significant clinical findings.\
n• Conduct a basic patient history and assessment that relates to in
terpretation of echocardiographic findings.\n• Operate several cardi
 ac ultrasound instruments and apply various types of cardiac Doppler;
pulsewave, continuous wave and color flow mapping. * Describe the norm
al cardiovascular blood flow through the heart and the great vessels a
s defined by Doppler velocity measurements and profiles.\n• Quantify
Doppler findings in echocardiography.\n• Analyze common cardiac Dop
pler findings for common cardiac pathologies.\n• Identify the diseas
es or cardiac pathologies that require definition by Doppler examinati
 on.\n\nCourse Topics\n• Ultrasound Physics\n• Cardiovascular Anato
my and Physiology and EKG\n• Equipment Orientation\n• Anatomy and
 Physiology and Cardiac Catheterization\n• 2-D Imaging\n• M-Mode\nâ
 €¢ Acquired Heart Disease\n• Congenital Heart Disease\n• Doppler I
nstrumentation and Controls\n• Doppler Normals\n• Cardiac Quantifi
cation\n• Cardiac Doppler in Disease\n• Special Procedures\n• Co
 ntrast Echocardiography\n\nINSTRUCTORS:\nWhelan\n\nCME HOURS: 64\n\nLE
