SUMMARY:Echocardiography Cardiac Doppler Ultrasound
DESCRIPTION:Echocardiography has come a long way from its humble begin
nings. The addition of M-Mode, two dimensional real time imaging, Dopp
ler, color flow, and now three and four dimensional imaging have all c
hanged the way echocardiography is practiced. Diastolic assessment and
changes in nomenclature have even changed the language of Echo. This
eight day course covers echo from M-mode to 3-D. After completion you
will be confident in choosing the proper tools to assess common pathol
ogical conditions such as valvular abnormalities, systolic, and diasto
lic function. Development of a consistent protocol is mandatory to avo
id missing pathology and our scan lab with state of the art equipment
and low student instructor ratios will give you the time and opportuni
ty to practice, practice, practice.\nObjectives At the completion of t
his course, the learner will be able to:\n\nExplain normal cardiovascu
lar anatomy and physiology and relate cardiovascular functions to dise
ase.\nDiscuss cardiac mechanical and electrical physiology and relate
this information from the echocardiogram to the basic electrocardiogra
m.\nOperate several ultrasound units for the production of 2-D, M-Mode
and Doppler echocardiograms.\nPerform an echocardiogram using the pro
tocol defined by the American Society of Echocardiography, i.e. parast
ernal long and short, apical 2, 4, 5, and long, and subcostal long and
short axis.\nQuantitatively analyze the results of 2-D and M-Mode ech
ocardiogram.\nAnalyze the results of an echocardiogram for normal vers
us abnormal findings.\nAnalyze echocardiograms for common cardiac path
ologies.\nIdentify and resolve basic technique and equipment problems
that interfere with the quality of studies.\nDefine the clinical respo
nsibilities of an echocardiographer who is confronted with significant
clinical findings.\nConduct a basic patient history and assessment th
at relates to interpretation of echocardiographic findings.\nOperate s
everal cardiac ultrasound instruments and apply various types of cardi
ac Doppler; pulse wave, continuous wave and color flow mapping. * Desc
ribe the normal cardiovascular blood flow through the heart and the gr
eat vessels as defined by Doppler velocity measurements and profiles.\
nQuantify Doppler findings in echocardiography.\nAnalyze common cardia
c Doppler findings for common cardiac pathologies.\nIdentify the disea
ses or cardiac pathologies that require definition by Doppler examinat
 ion.\n\nCourse Topics\n\nUltrasound Physics and Instrumentation\nCardi
