provide you with a basic, practical understanding of carotid ultrasou
nd. The physics and instrumentation of carotid scanning, to include th
e spectral analysis and correlation is covered for obtaining quantitat
ive information. The hemodynamics of the cerebrovascular system are ex
plained as they relate to the Doppler procedure. You will learn to mea
sure Intimal Medial Thickness (IMT) of the inner two layers of the car
otid artery and it’s correlation to coronary artery disease. The use
of color and the normal versus abnormal characteristics are discussed
.\n\nObjectives\nAt the completion of this course, the learner will be
able to:\n• Identify the ultrasound appearance of normal carotid an
atomy, architecture and flow.\n• Use color flow and imaging to evalu
ate carotid flow.\n• Describe the use of ultrasound to characterize
carotid arterial disease.\n• Perform Doppler calculations in a compl
ete carotid procedure.\n• Perform a basic carotid arterial procedure
using the correct protocol.\n• Describe image-optimization for caro
tid artery ultrasound exams.\n• Identify additional resources for in
formation on carotid arterial ultrasound.\n• Measure the intimal med
ial thickness of the cornary artery.\n\nCourse Topics\n• Physics and
Instrumentation\n• Normal Anatomy and Hemodynamics\n• Scan Protoc
ol and QA\n• Carotid Arterial Disease\n• Doppler Measurements\n•
Spectral and Color Correlation\n• Artifacts\n• Quantifying Caroti
 d Artery Disease\n• Case Studies\n• Hands-on Scanning\n\nCME Credi
