SUMMARY:Carotid Duplex Ultrasound
DESCRIPTION:Vascular ultrasound has progressed over the years to becom
e much more than a screening tool. From its early beginnings of grainy
black and white two dimensional images, to the addition of Doppler an
d color flow, it has become the modality of choice for early detection
of peripheral arterial, cerebrovascular, and venous disease. For the
detection of DVT and venous reflux, duplex testing is now the gold sta
ndard other modalities are compared to. Accurate diagnostic testing of
the vascular system requires a comprehensive understanding of anatomy
and hemodynamics as well as the various pathological conditions that
can present. Multiple variables such as cardiac output, dehydration, a
nd infection can all have an impact on the vascular system.\nThis two-
day seminar provides an overview of physics and instrumentation, anato
my and hemodynamics, and diagnostic criteria suitable for anyone from
an experienced sonographer to the beginner. For the physician wanting
a more thorough understanding of the capabilities and potential of the
vascular lab, along with interpretative criteria, our extensive libra
ry of case studies will prove invaluable. Our scan lab and state of th
e art equipment, along with our low student instructor ratios allow yo
u plenty of time to perfect your protocol, and acquire the scanning ex
perience necessary to perform diagnostic vascular exams.\n*This course
can be taken individually as a two (2) day course OR part of the Vasc
ular Ultrasound seven (7) day course.\nObjectives At the completion of
this course, the learner will be able to:\n\nCorrectly identify vesse
l anatomy and orientation in a vascular ultrasound examination.\nIdent
ify the variations in instrumentation and Doppler principles and the e
ffects in scanning parameters.\nDescribe the flow characteristics and
the manifestations of disease processes.\nDiscuss QA of the procedure
and equipment.\nAnalyze the results of a vascular exam for pathologica
l conditions and in certain cases, quantify the diseases.\nIdentify ad
ditional resource information on vascular ultrasound.\n\nCourse Topics
\n\nDay one of this two day seminar starts with an overview of the phy
sical principles of ultrasound including Doppler and color flow, follo
wed by a comprehensive review of the ultrasound platform controls enab
ling you to optimize your system for even the most difficult patient.
After lunch you will be introduced to our scan lab with state of the a
rt equipment platforms and low student instructor ratios where you wil
l learn the specific controls for each of the platforms on the floor,
basic scanning techniques, and patient positioning.\nDay two starts ca
rotid duplex testing. This includes anatomy, hemodynamics, diagnostic
criteria, case studies, pearls and pitfalls, as well as standardized r
eporting. After lunch you will again be in the scan lab working on pro
tocols, technique, and documentation of your studies.\n\n*This course
can be taken as a two day course, or as days 1 – 2 of the seven day
Vascular Ultrasound course.\nTarget Audience Physicians who desire ent
ry level training with vascular ultrasound, and sonographers or other
health care professionals learning vascular ultrasound or cross traini
 ng.\n\n\nFor more information visit https://community.radrounds.com/ev
