SUMMARY:Cardiac CT Practicum: The Total Experience
DESCRIPTION:Cardiac CT Practicum: The Total Experience\nJune 6-10, 201
 1\n\nCardiac CT Practicum\n\nPresented by\nJohns Hopkins University Sc
hool of Medicine\nOffice of Continuing Medical Education\n\nTo check a
vailability and reserve your seat at this activity, please call Susan
Orr at 410-550-0845 or email: sorr@jhmi.edu.\n\nDESCRIPTION\n\nThe act
ivity is held monthly at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in B
altimore, Maryland, in a multimedia classroom constructed specifically
for the learner’s needs. This is a workstation-based training activ
ity, designed to meet American College of Cardiology/American Heart As
sociation Level II and III requirements. Each participant has their ow
n workstation to use throughout the activity and receives personal att
ention and instruction by the activity faculty. A workstation, which p
rojects to the front of the room is used by instructors to demonstrate
various aspects of CT interpretation. After receiving training on the
use of the workstation, a case library of over 150 cases selected to
demonstrate the variety of pathology, which can be evaluated by CT (co
ronary disease, bypass grafts, stents, anomalies, cardiomyopathies, EP
, pericardial disease, cardiac tumors) is reviewed. A minimum of 100 c
ases is reviewed during the five days of the activity.\n\nTwenty hours
of didactic instruction is included through lectures and reading mate
rials, which will cover topics of patient selection, preparation, radi
ation, contrast, cardiac anatomy, assessment of cardiac function, card
iac pathology, etc. Members of the Johns Hopkins faculty and guest fac
ulty will present these topics. Participants will take a quiz to confi
rm understanding of these materials.\n\nThe requirement for observatio
n of the acquisition of 50 studies is satisfied by utilizing a combina
tion of onsite observation of approximately 25 studies supplemented by
interactive observation of approximately 25 studies performed offsite
and viewed by interactive video link. Participants will have the oppo
rtunity to ask questions during acquisition of the studies (i.e., pati
ent selection, use of beta blockers) and to observe the steps in obtai
ning the scan by direct observation of the scanner console. The 50 sca
ns that were acquired during the week of the activity are anonymized a
nd participants will interpret these studies on their own time followi
ng the five days of onsite training. After faculty review of the parti
cipants’ interpretation of these 50 studies and the other elements o
f the activity, a certificate documenting completion of the Level II a
nd III requirements will be issued.\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND\n\nThis activ
ity is intended for physicians including cardiologists and radiologist
s who are currently in practice or are in fellowship, seeking Level II
competency training. For those who have already qualified for Level I
I, this added experience will meet the case requirements for Level II.
\n\nOBJECTIVES\n\nAfter attending this activity, the participant will
demonstrate the ability to:\n• Choose patients appropriate for this
imaging modality\n• Prepare patients to obtain optimal study results
\n• Optimize image reconstruction for cardiac analyses\n• Use 3D w
orkstation to visualize all aspects of cardiac anatomy\n• Assess ext
ent of coronary atherosclerosis and evaluate LV function\n\nACCREDITAT
ION STATEMENT\n\nThe Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is ac
credited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education
to provide continuing medical education for physicians.\n\nCREDIT DES
IGNATION STATEMENT\n\nThe Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
designates this educational activity for a maximum of 41 AMA PRA Categ
ory 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate wit
h the extent of their participation in the activity.\n\nFor more infor
