SUMMARY:Cardiac CT Practicum: The Total Experience
DESCRIPTION:Cardiac CT Practicum: The Total Experience\n\nMay 9-13, 20
 11\n\nCardiac CT Practicum\n\nPresented by\nJohns Hopkins University S
chool of Medicine\nOffice of Continuing Medical Education\n\nTo check
availability and reserve your seat at this activity, please call Susan
Orr at 410-550-0845 or email: sorr@jhmi.edu.\n\nDESCRIPTION\n\nThe ac
tivity is held monthly at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in
Baltimore, Maryland, in a multimedia classroom constructed specificall
y for the learner’s needs. This is a workstation-based training acti
vity, designed to meet American College of Cardiology/American Heart A
ssociation Level II and III requirements. Each participant has their o
wn workstation to use throughout the activity and receives personal at
tention and instruction by the activity faculty. A workstation, which
projects to the front of the room is used by instructors to demonstrat
e various aspects of CT interpretation. After receiving training on th
e use of the workstation, a case library of over 150 cases selected to
demonstrate the variety of pathology, which can be evaluated by CT (c
oronary disease, bypass grafts, stents, anomalies, cardiomyopathies, E
P, pericardial disease, cardiac tumors) is reviewed. A minimum of 100
cases is reviewed during the five days of the activity.\n\nTwenty hour
s of didactic instruction is included through lectures and reading mat
erials, which will cover topics of patient selection, preparation, rad
iation, contrast, cardiac anatomy, assessment of cardiac function, car
diac pathology, etc. Members of the Johns Hopkins faculty and guest fa
culty will present these topics. Participants will take a quiz to conf
irm understanding of these materials.\n\nThe requirement for observati
on of the acquisition of 50 studies is satisfied by utilizing a combin
ation of onsite observation of approximately 25 studies supplemented b
y interactive observation of approximately 25 studies performed offsit
e and viewed by interactive video link. Participants will have the opp
ortunity to ask questions during acquisition of the studies (i.e., pat
ient selection, use of beta blockers) and to observe the steps in obta
ining the scan by direct observation of the scanner console. The 50 sc
ans that were acquired during the week of the activity are anonymized
and participants will interpret these studies on their own time follow
ing the five days of onsite training. After faculty review of the part
icipants’ interpretation of these 50 studies and the other elements
of the activity, a certificate documenting completion of the Level II
and III requirements will be issued.\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND\n\nThis acti
vity is intended for physicians including cardiologists and radiologis
ts who are currently in practice or are in fellowship, seeking Level I
I competency training. For those who have already qualified for Level
II, this added experience will meet the case requirements for Level II
.\n\nOBJECTIVES\nAfter attending this activity, the participant will d
emonstrate the ability to:\n\n• Choose patients appropriate for this
imaging modality\n• Prepare patients to obtain optimal study result
s\n• Optimize image reconstruction for cardiac analyses\n• Use 3D
workstation to visualize all aspects of cardiac anatomy\n• Assess ex
tent of coronary atherosclerosis and evaluate LV function\n\nACCREDITA
TION STATEMENT\n\nThe Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is a
ccredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Educatio
n to provide continuing medical education for physicians.\n\nCREDIT DE
SIGNATION STATEMENT\n\nThe Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
