SUMMARY:Cardiac CT Practicum: The Total Experience
DESCRIPTION:Cardiac CT Practicum: The Total Experience\nApril 11-15, 2
 011\n\nCardiac CT Practicum\n\nPresented by\nJohns Hopkins University
School of Medicine\nOffice of Continuing Medical Education\n\nTo check
availability and reserve your seat at this activity, please call Susa
 n Orr at 410-550-0845 or email: sorr@jhmi.edu.\n\nDESCRIPTION\n\nThe a
ctivity is held monthly at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in
Baltimore, Maryland, in a multimedia classroom constructed specifical
ly for the learner’s needs. This is a workstation-based training act
ivity, designed to meet American College of Cardiology/American Heart
Association Level II and III requirements. Each participant has their
own workstation to use throughout the activity and receives personal a
ttention and instruction by the activity faculty. A workstation, which
projects to the front of the room is used by instructors to demonstra
te various aspects of CT interpretation. After receiving training on t
he use of the workstation, a case library of over 150 cases selected t
o demonstrate the variety of pathology, which can be evaluated by CT (
coronary disease, bypass grafts, stents, anomalies, cardiomyopathies,
EP, pericardial disease, cardiac tumors) is reviewed. A minimum of 100
cases is reviewed during the five days of the activity.\n\nTwenty hou
rs of didactic instruction is included through lectures and reading ma
terials, which will cover topics of patient selection, preparation, ra
diation, contrast, cardiac anatomy, assessment of cardiac function, ca
rdiac pathology, etc. Members of the Johns Hopkins faculty and guest f
aculty will present these topics. Participants will take a quiz to con
firm understanding of these materials.\n\nThe requirement for observat
ion of the acquisition of 50 studies is satisfied by utilizing a combi
nation of onsite observation of approximately 25 studies supplemented
by interactive observation of approximately 25 studies performed offsi
te and viewed by interactive video link. Participants will have the op
portunity to ask questions during acquisition of the studies (i.e., pa
tient selection, use of beta blockers) and to observe the steps in obt
aining the scan by direct observation of the scanner console. The 50 s
cans that were acquired during the week of the activity are anonymized
and participants will interpret these studies on their own time follo
wing the five days of onsite training. After faculty review of the par
ticipants’ interpretation of these 50 studies and the other elements
of the activity, a certificate documenting completion of the Level II
and III requirements will be issued.\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND\n\nThis act
ivity is intended for physicians including cardiologists and radiologi
sts who are currently in practice or are in fellowship, seeking Level
II competency training. For those who have already qualified for Level
II, this added experience will meet the case requirements for Level I
I.\n\nOBJECTIVES\n\nAfter attending this activity, the participant wil
l demonstrate the ability to:\n• Choose patients appropriate for thi
s imaging modality\n• Prepare patients to obtain optimal study resul
ts\n• Optimize image reconstruction for cardiac analyses\n• Use 3D
workstation to visualize all aspects of cardiac anatomy\n• Assess e
xtent of coronary atherosclerosis and evaluate LV function\n\nACCREDIT
ATION STATEMENT\n\nThe Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is
accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Educati
on to provide continuing medical education for physicians.\n\nCREDIT D
ESIGNATION STATEMENT\n\nThe Johns Hopkins University School of Medicin
e designates this educational activity for a maximum of 41 AMA PRA Cat
egory 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate w
ith the extent of their participation in the activity.\n\nFor more inf
