SUMMARY:Cardiac CT Practicum: The Total Experience
DESCRIPTION:Cardiac CT Practicum\n\nPresented by\nJohns Hopkins Univer
sity School of Medicine\nOffice of Continuing Medical Education\n\nFeb
ruary 14-18, 2011\n\nTo check availability and reserve your seat at th
is activity, please call Susan Orr at 410-550-0845 or email: sorr@jhmi
.edu.\n\nDESCRIPTION\n\nThe activity is held monthly at the Johns Hopk
ins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, in a multimedia cla
ssroom constructed specifically for the learner’s needs. This is a w
orkstation-based training activity, designed to meet American College
of Cardiology/American Heart Association Level II and III requirements
. Each participant has their own workstation to use throughout the act
ivity and receives personal attention and instruction by the activity
faculty. A workstation, which projects to the front of the room is use
d by instructors to demonstrate various aspects of CT interpretation.
After receiving training on the use of the workstation, a case library
of over 150 cases selected to demonstrate the variety of pathology, w
hich can be evaluated by CT (coronary disease, bypass grafts, stents,
anomalies, cardiomyopathies, EP, pericardial disease, cardiac tumors)
is reviewed. A minimum of 100 cases is reviewed during the five days o
f the activity.\n\nTwenty hours of didactic instruction is included th
rough lectures and reading materials, which will cover topics of patie
nt selection, preparation, radiation, contrast, cardiac anatomy, asses
sment of cardiac function, cardiac pathology, etc. Members of the John
s Hopkins faculty and guest faculty will present these topics. Partici
pants will take a quiz to confirm understanding of these materials.\n\
nThe requirement for observation of the acquisition of 50 studies is s
atisfied by utilizing a combination of onsite observation of approxima
tely 25 studies supplemented by interactive observation of approximate
ly 25 studies performed offsite and viewed by interactive video link.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during acquisi
tion of the studies (i.e., patient selection, use of beta blockers) an
d to observe the steps in obtaining the scan by direct observation of
the scanner console. The 50 scans that were acquired during the week o
f the activity are anonymized and participants will interpret these st
udies on their own time following the five days of onsite training. Af
ter faculty review of the participants’ interpretation of these 50 s
tudies and the other elements of the activity, a certificate documenti
ng completion of the Level II and III requirements will be issued.\n\n
WHO SHOULD ATTEND\n\nThis activity is intended for physicians includin
g cardiologists and radiologists who are currently in practice or are
in fellowship, seeking Level II competency training. For those who hav
e already qualified for Level II, this added experience will meet the
case requirements for Level II.\n\nOBJECTIVES\n\nAfter attending this
activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:\n\n• Choo
se patients appropriate for this imaging modality\n• Prepare patient
s to obtain optimal study results\n• Optimize image reconstruction f
or cardiac analyses\n• Use 3D workstation to visualize all aspects o
f cardiac anatomy\n• Assess extent of coronary atherosclerosis and e
valuate LV function\n\nACCREDITATION STATEMENT\n\nThe Johns Hopkins Un
iversity School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council
for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical educat
ion for physicians.\n\nCREDIT DESIGNATION STATEMENT\n\nThe Johns Hopki
ns University School of Medicine designates this educational activity
for a maximum of 41 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should o
nly claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation i
 n the activity.\n\nFor more information visit https://community.radrou
