SUMMARY:Abdominal Ultrasound
DESCRIPTION:Abdominal Ultrasound\nJanuary 27-29, 2011\n\nProgram Coord
 inator: Oksana H. Baltarowich, MD\n\nWho Should Attend:\nPhysicians, c
linicians, medical professionals, and cross-training technologists int
erested in the sonographic manifestations of normal and pathologic con
ditions of abdominal organs. Scanning experience is recommended.\n\nPr
ogram Description:\n\nThe two-day Abdominal program covers the broad r
ange of applications for ultrasound evaluation of the abdomen. The pro
gram consists of lectures supplemented by demonstrations and case revi
ews. The Saturday optional hands-on experience with live models is pro
vides an opportunity for clinicians to hone skills and develop new one
s.\n\nEmphasis is placed on an integrated approach combining details o
f normal ultrasound anatomy and typical ultrasound patterns of abdomin
 al pathology.\n\nLecture Topics:\n\nSpecific lecture topics include a
review of principles of ultrasound physics, instrumentation and imagin
g techniques including Doppler, and ultrasound evaluation of:\n\nDetai
led abdominal vascular anatomy- Liver\nBiliary System- Kidneys and Ret
 roperitoneum\nPancreas- Spleen\nGreat Vessels- Thyroid and Parathroid\
nUrinary Bladder- Scrotum\nPediatric Abdomen (limited)\n\nA typical cl
ass day runs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. An optional hands-on scanning se
ssion is available on Saturday morning from 9:00 am to approximately n
oon. This session allows students the opportunity to scan models using
  a variety of ultrasound equipment.\n\nEducational Objectives:\n\nThro
ugh attending this course, the participant should be able to:\n\nappre
ciate the relationship between acoustic physics and the sonographic re
presentation of tissue\n\nrecognize the acoustic representation of nor
mal abdominal anatomy and identify pathologies of the abdomen from ult
rasound images\n\nunderstand and discuss the capabilities and limitati
ons of ultrasound evaluation of the abdomen\n\nCME Credits and Tuition
:\n\nThis program is approved for 11 hours of AMA Category I credit.\n
