This dynamic training course uses an inte grated approach of lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on scanning expe rience with models to accomplish those training goals in a comprehensi ve five day program. Advanced Health Education Center training model f or skills classes follows a systematic approach of presenting a concis e review of ultrasound physics and instrumentation followed by a seque ntial introduction of the abdominal systems with anatomy and vasculatu re. Case studies and ultrasound images are used to demonstrate the cor relation of ultrasound appearance of normal versus abnormal tissues. T he afternoon hands on scanning labs reinforce the knowledge acquired i n the lecture setting with the necessary clinical skills to acquire an d maximize a diagnostic image. By the conclusion of the training cours e participants have acquired the knowledge and skill required to a com plete upper abdomen and small parts protocol. A variety of ultrasound equipment is available in the scan lab. A complete two-week program ca n be accomplished with this course followed by the five day OB/GYN Ult rasound course. Objectives At the completion of this course, the learn er will be able to: • Utilize the principles of instrumentation to s et up ultrasound equipment for scanning. • Recognize and identify th e organ systems of the abdomen on an ultrasound image. • Perform bas ic ultrasound procedures on the abdomen patient. • Understand and id entify pathological variants and their influence in the ultrasound pro cedure. • Follow the sequence of an abdominal ultrasound procedure f rom the beginning to its conclusion.
